Modeling and Developing New Methods to Improve Structural Performance in Buildings R&D Project

Preserving historical buildings is crucial in transferring cultural heritage to future generations. To achieve this, it is important to investigate traditional building methods, materials, and technologies, while also developing modern intervention techniques using software such as AutoCAD. The proper determination of intervention techniques and the recommendation of appropriate materials and methods for comprehensive repairs of stone and masonry structures are crucial to prevent and minimize losses. Our research and development work aims to ensure the preservation and maintenance of buildings in compliance with conservation principles, thereby rescuing them from destruction and ensuring their sustainability.

Project Status
Modeling and Developing New Methods to Improve Structural Performance in Buildings R&D Project 100%

Project aimed at identifying and defining the physical, chemical, and mechanical characteristics of specific building materials such as plaster, mortar, stone, brick, wood, and metal in a non-destructive manner. The project focused on buildings constructed using the stone and rubble techniques, such as hamams, tombs, bridges, houses, and caravanserais, selected from various regions.

The project involved analyzing the selected buildings and identifying physical behavior and structural problems. The project also included the analysis of the buildings’ architectural features, plans, facades, and other characteristics to determine the necessary interventions, and the development of techniques and technologies for the production and application of compatible repair materials.

Success in terms of the results obtained

The findings were classified according to regions and buildings, and the project resulted in the development of innovative technology projects for improving the structural performance of building elements in stone buildings. The concrete outcomes of the project included the definition of repair and material types for use in historical buildings, the identification of production and technology-related techniques, the conservation of cultural heritage in compliance with the principles of conservation science, the reduction of intervention in healthy repairs, resulting in cost savings, and the development of innovative technology projects for the improvement of the structural performance of building elements in stone buildings through university-industry cooperation.

The preservation and restoration of historic structures require a comprehensive understanding and utilization of traditional building materials, technologies, and techniques. Through diligent research and development, compatible materials and technologies can be developed for precise and scientific interventions. Our efforts include detailed reports on the survey, restitution, and restoration of cultural assets in need of comprehensive repairs. Our aim is to identify appropriate intervention techniques to restore the original form of these assets while removing any negative additions and interventions. Our research reports provide comprehensive analysis of the building materials, construction techniques, damage assessment, intervention methods, and priorities of these structures.
